Kona, Hawaii Dive Trip

Previous Index Next

OK, we didn't have a camera when we walked through the Thurston Lava Tube, nor did we have a flashlight when we reached the last 334 meters, which are undeveloped and completely unlit- but we did happen to have a tiny keychain light.

So, a woman we had just met joined us for a cautious, very dark journey (when our thumbs tired of squeezing the keychain light, it became as dark as the inside of a coffin- or so I would imagine).

You can see professional photos of the lava tube's tropical entrance and spooky interior at these three sites:

Walking the Thurston Lava Tube was one of the most fun parts of our trip that didn't involve diving.

We highly recommend walking the length of the last part of the tube with the tiniest light possible-
unless you're afraid of the dark or being buried alive, of course!
